Welcoming home this powerful and moving portrait exhibition by Sheffield artist Stephen Martin as it finishes its UK tour.
Stephen Martin, a local artist, painted acrylic portraits of 10 people living on the frontline of poverty in Sheffield, including himself.
Each picture shows the person, something that depicts their economic reality, and something that represents the dreams and ambitions they would pursue if they were not held back by poverty and unjust systems.
The paintings came out of St Mary's Bramall Lane Family Choir and during 2024 they went from here to tour the UK as part of the Let's End Poverty campaign. Everywhere they went, community arts events shared their stories, and built support for action to tackle UK poverty.
The paintings are now returning to Sheffield. Come to see the paintings and stories, and hear from local decision-makers and the tour organisers about the impact it's made. Celebrate with us, and get involved in action for change!
Refreshments will be provided.
We invite you to join us at 5.30pm for Choral Evensong sung by Sheffield Cathedral Choir (open to all). The reception will then begin at 6.15pm, and you will need to have booked place to attend this section of the event.
